Position Summary

Sunbeam is seeking a progressive, experienced and people-focused Director to play a key leadership role within the Human Resources team. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in unionized environments, labour relations, employee coaching, and performance management, along with a strong understanding of employment and health and safety-related legislation.

The Director, People & Culture will serve as a trusted advisor to managers and employees, supporting organizational growth and excellence in service delivery through effective HR strategies and practices.

 

Key Responsibilities

    • Lead day-to-day HR operations including employee relations, performance management, coaching, recruitment, and compliance
    • Be a member of the Senior Management Team with the opportunity to have significant input into the agency’s direction and future
    • Provide supervision and coaching to a team comprising of HR Officers, a training and development coordinator, volunteer coordinator and receptionist
    • Participate in labour relations matters, including grievance handling, interpretation of collective agreements, and negotiations
    • Provide coaching and guidance to front-line supervisors and managers on leadership, conflict resolution, and employee engagement
    • Support organizational development by implementing training, onboarding, and retention initiatives
    • Ensure compliance with all relevant employment laws, regulatory requirements, and HR policies
    • Collaborate with union representatives and internal leadership to foster a respectful and cooperative labour environment
    • Champion equity, diversity, and inclusion throughout HR policies and practices
    • Maintain and analyze HR metrics and reports through HRIS to inform decision-making

Qualifications & Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree or post-graduate diploma in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (CHRP or CHRL designation preferred)
    • Minimum 5 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 2 years in a unionized setting
    • Demonstrated knowledge of Ontario employment law and collective agreement interpretation
    • Experience in employee coaching, conflict resolution, and investigations
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative and empathetic approach
    • Experience in community or developmental services sectors is considered an asset
    • Proficiency in HRIS platforms and Microsoft Office Suite
