Sunbeam Community & Developmental Services is a non-profit, multi-site, multi-faceted organization that is committed to serving individuals living with complex developmental, intellectual, behavioural, and/or physical disabilities.

Position overview:

Working within a six-person team, the Accounting Generalist is directly responsible for maintaining an accurate and efficient chart of accounts, leading the month end reconciliation process, preparing the internal/ external reporting and analysis of financial information, and collaborating with the Director, Financial Services. In the absence of the Director, Financial Services, the Accounting Generalist will provide overall support and direction to the finance team.

Working collaboratively with individuals, families, advocates, guardians, Sunbeam staff, and external community and government partners, the Coordinator ensures timely access to available support and services. The position also uses Individual Support Plans (ISPs), Annual Financial Plans (AFPs), and Personal Outcome Measures (POMS) to identify needs, support goal achievement, and promote positive outcomes for the people Sunbeam serves.

Key Accountabilities/Activities:

• Maintains an accurate and efficient chart of accounts that leads to efficient internal and external reporting and budgeting objectives and provides support to users throughout the organization.
• Coordinates the timely month end reconciliation process including:
  • Review and reconcile all asset and liability accounts to ensure accuracy of balance sheet and timely clearing of balances.
  • Maintain financial records using accrual accounting.
  • Review accruals to ensure completeness.
  • Ensure aged accounts receivable and accounts payable subledgers are current and direct staff to follow up on outstanding balances.
  • Enter recurring and month end adjusting entries.
• Initiates internal/external financial reporting and analysis:
  • Extract and analyze monthly financial statements and follow up significant variances.
  • Distribute monthly financial reports to budget managers throughout the organization and provide support for any questions from stakeholders.
  • Track variance explanations for timing and permanent differences and incorporate into the monthly forecast.
  • Provide support to Director, Financial Services through budget process, uploading the budget and monthly forecasts into the accounting software.
  • Assists with monthly/ quarterly/annual funder reports and preparing working papers and other analysis required for the annual audit.
• Collaborates with the Director, Financial Services on enhancements to departmental systems, policies, and procedures.
• Assist Director of Financial Services with funders’ budgets and reporting
• Other duties:
  • Provide backup to Director, Financial Services and payroll.
  • Submit annual property tax rebate applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Accounting or Business Degree

• CPA or progressing toward CPA designation
